Fabric and Frame For Your Upholstered Dining Chairs

Upholstered Dining Chairs

upholstered dining chairLooking for dining room chairs?  Upholstered chairs are the way to go.  They look great in any dining room, and fit with any style of furnishings.  But with so many choices in materials out there, for the fabrics, cushioning, and frame, it can be hard to know which is the best choice. Here is some advice about what materials work best.

When choosing your fabric, think about how the chair will be used, and what you prefer in terms of the feel of the fabric.  First, if the chair will be used outside, then certain fabrics, such as silk or linen should be avoided, as they are prone to fading in direct sunlight.  If you are worried about spills and stains, then choose a fabric, such as nylon, that is easy to clean.  There are many options, including cotton, linen, wool, and even leather, so choose which one feels best and suits the specific needs of your dining room.

You don't want your fabric to touch the wood directly.  There needs to be a cushion or batting layer, in order to keep the fabric from wearing, and to give you a more padded, comfortable place to sit.  Some chairs will have a thin layer of cotton, while others will have a more plush, cushioned seat.  For the cushioning, your best option will most likely be a foam padding.  Other, more expensive choices are to get a larger seat with spring cushions, or a down and feather cushion.

Most frames for upholstered dining chairs are made of wood.  In wood furniture, harder and more durable hardwoods, such as mahogany, oak, or cherry are best.  As long as you choose a solid and durable wood, then you will have no problem with the stability and longevity of the chair.  The color and appearance of the wood are the next big factor, since, whether you have backless wood bar stools or very traditional style dining chairs, some part of the wood frame will be visible.  The color and finish of the wood should match the tone and furnishings of the room.

Choosing the right materials for your fabric, cushioning, and frame is important in giving your dining room the look that you want.  Whether you are buying retail or getting custom upholstered dining chairs, look for materials that match with the coloring and appearance of your room, and that are durable and suitable for your needs.
