Steel Carport Plans – A Contractor’s Perspective

Steel Carport Plans

aluminium carportI am a contractor. I know that can mean so many things to different people. For some it means "scamster" but to others it means "trusted adviser." And I can understand why contractors can have either a good reputation or bad reputation. There are so many bad contractors out there that give us good ones a bad name. And now that the housing market is in the bottom, it's even harder to find jobs.

But there are some things that everyone needs no matter what the market is like and that is extra storage space. Traditionally, a homeowner would come to someone like me to build them a new bedroom, walk-in closet, or even an attached garage. But now that most people don't have a budget of $5,000 or more to pay someone like me to do a quality job for them, they look for more affordable alternatives. And the number one alternative happened to be steel carport kits.

The main reason most folks turn to steel carport plans is because they are incredibly affordable. Instead of paying thousands of dollars for traditional construction, all you have to do is head down to your local hardware store and buy one for $900 or so. So you get all the storage benefits for a fraction of the costs of traditional construction.

And best of all for homeowners is that you don't need someone like me to assemble it for you. Everything literally comes to you in a convenient kit; all of the parts, specialized tools, and instruction manual. All you have to do is literally follow the instructions and your carport will be ready to use in a few days. Granted, if you have an enclosed metal carport, you'll probably need some help moving the panels around.

Best of all, it's a lot easier finding a great carport when you compare it to finding a great contractor. All you have to do is head online, check out a couple of websites, make a list of carports that you like, then search the Internet for reviews on each of your choices. Then click to buy it, and you'll have it delivered to your doorstep within a week. It is really that easy.

The only down part to buying a carport is that it won't add much value to your home, especially if you used carport for sale. If you want to increase your home equity, you need something more tangible, like an additional room or attached garage built to your city's building codes. If you want to add a lot of value to your home, the best way to do it is to hire a contractor and really take your time to find the best and most affordable way to add space to your home.
